About RStudio

Garrick is a Data Science Educator at RStudio who lives in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida. His passion is combining creative coding with programming education, using code to build tools that teach coding to new and advanced R users alike. Like tidyexplain: a project that used ggplot2 and gganimate to reimagine database operations as colorful flying boxes instead of the typical Venn diagrams. Garrick has developed a number of open source addins and packages for RStudio—such regexplain, shrtcts and rsthemes—and is always easily distracted by projects that combine R Markdown and online learning or teaching.

David is a retired professional data wrestler and a Solutions Engineer at RStudio. When away from the keyboard, he enjoys cycling, making coffee and cocktails, and playing the electric bass.

Ferit is a software engineer and leader focused on developing and scaling teams. He brings a broad array experiences from Boston area product startups, IT organizations and digital consultancies such as Maxwell Health, Brightcove, Harvard University and Razorfish. Outside of work he is very focused on learning to be a great parent, and the little free time that’s left goes to cooking, singing and exercise. He holds a software engineering degree from University of Pennsylvania.

Taner is a QA Automation Engineer, focused primarily on backend services. He likes photography and scuba diving.

JJ Allaire is a software engineer and entrepreneur who has created a wide variety of products including ColdFusion, Open Live Writer, Lose It!, and RStudio.

Jeff’s background is in Computer Science and bioinformatics; it was there that he first encountered R in 2007. After spending many years as an RStudio user and evangelist, he joined the team in 2013.

Jeremy is a Customer Success Manager with a background in national security, sociology, and philosophy. After many years analyzing extremist ideology and recruiting, Jeremy fell in love with R and RStudio and decided to help others do the same. He’s a family man, cat guy, and book nerd.

Jenn’s background is in Computer science and she has experience in a variety of domains including HR, Power Measurement and Biotech. She has been involved in QA since 2003 and really enjoys helping her teams produce high quality, intuitive software that exceeds expectations.

Ash has more than 20 years of IT industry experience in management and technical roles across both the public and private sector. He has previously studied Maths at Imperial College, London, and is currently working towards a Masters in Cybersecurity at Staffordshire University. He lives with his wife, Alison, and rescue Labrador, Charlie, in Bedfordshire, England. When not working he enjoys watching cricket and football, reading, and collecting urban art.

Toph is a software engineer working on RStudio Connect. Before RStudio, he spent the better part of a decade as an epidemiologist and data scientist studying emerging infectious diseases. He’s interested in solving problems that cause major friction in scientists’ day to day work, and in lowering the barrier to entry for people who want to learn from data. Earlier, he worked as a political organizer at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. In his spare time, he writes and produces electronic music and DJs.

Ricardo started his career with hardware and then moved on databases which made him unusually fond of both low-level stuff and SQL. He spent the next 10 years between automotive and financial industries working mostly on backend services for B2B applications running both on the desktop and on the web. Before joining RStudio he worked a few years on enterprise-grade security software what made made him very wary of hackers. Ricardo is originally from Brazil but terrible at soccer and while not coding he likes spending time with his family, cooking, playing Nintendo games and following closely the C++ community.

Cole is a solutions engineer and has a background in mathematics and big data. He has architected and managed analytic frameworks for reporting that use R, SAS, and Tableau. He has a diverse set of skills and interests that include soccer, philosophy, economics, and open source software. Cole lives in Raleigh, NC with his wife and two young children.

Aron is a software engineer with experience at a number of Boston-area startups. Most recently, he helped build the Brightcove video platform. He has Mathematics and Computer Science degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Aron grew up as part of a farming family and still adores apple cider donuts.

Mara (better known as @dataandme) is our tidyverse developer advocate. She got into R by way of a long-time obsession with the NBA and (fantasy) basketball. When not catering to the every whim of her dogs, she can be found: hunting down weird words; indulging her bibliomania; and/or quantifying, visualizing, and watching Archer.

Lou is a passionate advocate for data science software, and has had many years of experience in a variety of leadership roles in large and small software companies, including product marketing, product management, engineering and customer success. In his spare time, his interests include enjoying the Pacific Northwest outdoors, books, science advocacy, great food and theater.

Neha lives in Springfield, VA with her toddler, husband (who is also her high school sweetheart), and their goldendoodle. She got her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Accounting degrees from George Mason University and is a licensed CPA in Virginia. In her spare time, Neha enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and chasing after her toddler.

Ming is a software engineer with previous experience at large biotech and higher education companies. She has worked on various projects from user interfaces to distributed databases and has a fondness for big data and little dogs.

Mike is an energetic software leader who believes in agile development and collaboration. His experience includes graphics and form design tools (Corel, Adobe), IDEs and static code analysis tools. Mike holds a degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He loves ultimate frisbee and urban adventure races (his goal is to compete on the Amazing Race). He lives in Ottawa with his partner and kids. Mike is on a lifelong mission to find great chocolate cake.

Robert is a member of our marketing team. His background is in digital marketing and marketing-automation. Robert is a big NBA fan (especially the 76ers) and likes electronic music and art-house films. In his spare time, he takes trips to Cape May, NJ and is active in the Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia community in Boston/Philadelphia.

James holds a master’s degree in data science from the University of the Pacific and works as a solutions engineer. His past consulting work centered around helping businesses derive insight from data assets by leveraging R. Outside of R and data science, James’s interests include spending time with his wife and children, cooking, camping, cycling, racquetball, and exquisite food. Also, he never turns down a funnel cake.

Ron is a quality assurance engineer who has worked mostly in startups. His professional experience is in QA, operations, and marketing, but first he earned a BS in History and an MA in Cognitive Psychology. Outside of investigating bugs, he writes short fiction, fervently watches movies, and plays “The Time Warp” on the ukulele.

Phil’s background is in analytical programs and consulting. He has experience at a number of technology and consulting corporations working in data science teams and delivering innovative data products.

Jessica’s background is in Business Management. She has previous experience in startups. Most recently, she worked for Brightcove under Tareef Kawaf for five out of her seven years there.

I have a background in public accounting, start-up & publicly-traded SaaS technology companies. I live in Minneapolis,MN with my recently adopted catahoula leopard dog, Meeko, a puppy constantly full of energy! I received his degree in Accounting from Purdue University, with a concentration in Finance. I enjoy golf, hockey, snowboarding and traveling whenever possible in my free time.

Jenny is a recovering biostatistician who takes special delight in eliminating the small agonies of data analysis. She’s part of Hadley’s team, working on R packages and integrating them into fluid workflows. She’s been working in R/S for over 20 years, serves in the leadership of rOpenSci and Forwards, and is an Ordinary Member of the R Foundation. Jenny is an Associate Professor of Statistics (on leave) at the University of British Columbia, where she created the course STAT 545.

Shawn is an Accounting and Finance veteran with over 20 years of experience working with start up and publicly traded companies. He enjoys working with people and data to help companies drive growth. He lives in Boston, MA with his wife and son. When not working, you can find him coaching his son’s sports teams or boating.

Nathan joins us as a member of the support team and is eager to help our customers succeed. He has been in the industry for many years and has had the opportunity to build and lead a support organization from the ground up. He was also a part of the AWS acquisition of Elemental Technologies. Nathan loves living in Colorado and spends his free time mountain biking and rock climbing.

Miles currently lives in sunny San Diego, CA, and got his Bachelor’s in Finance from Kansas State University. He is passionate about being generous and kind to others, going camping, and podcasting. When I’m not a work I am either diving deep into the world of a video game or having a nice craft beer with friends!

Mine Çetinkaya-Rundel is Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematics at University of Edinburgh and Data Scientist and Professional Educator at RStudio. Mine’s work focuses on innovation in statistics and data science pedagogy, with an emphasis on computing, reproducible research, student-centered learning, and open-source education as well as pedagogical approaches for enhancing retention of women and under-represented minorities in STEM. She co-authored three open-source introductory statistics textbooks as part of the OpenIntro project and she teaches the popular Statistics with R MOOC on Coursera.

Lauren is a Customer Success Representative with a focus in the Healthcare and Life Sciences industry. She has a background in Supply Chain Management & Information Systems and has experience IT Consulting for large healthcare companies – focusing on business transformation, technology implementation, process improvement, & requirements management. In her free time, Lauren loves traveling, watching baseball (go Indians!), and spending time with her family and friends.

Winston is a software engineer at RStudio, and is a developer for the Shiny, ggplot2, and devtools packages. He holds a Ph.D. in psychology from Northwestern University and is the author of R Graphics Cookbook, published by O’Reilly Media.

Chaita is a Quality Engineer who has worked across Retail, Publishing & Gaming domains. She holds a degree in Computer Science and Business Administration. Born in India, she lived in London before making Austin her home. Apart from breaking stuff, her hobbies include theater, coaching math pentathlon and is a fan of ‘Walking Dead’.

Richard is a QA Automation Engineer with experience in cybersecurity and e-commerce. He is an avid outdoors person and dog lover and is often exploring new places with his Rottweiler and black lab.

Joe is a software engineer who has worked at a number of startups including Allaire, Upromise, and Onfolio. He also worked on Windows Live Writer.

Jay is a U.S. Air Force veteran with IT, Wall Street, banking, and fund management experience. He has provided technical support to several military groups and has over 15 years of experience using Linux and Unix. Most recently Jay managed a private fund with a focus on algorithmic trading using R with C++ and CUDA.

Jim has built Sales and Services functions for numerous high growth technology companies including SGI, Macromedia, Frictionless Commerce, Oat Systems and Bit9. He holds a Computer Science degree from Dartmouth College.

Joe graduated from BYU with a BS in Statistics and Applied Analytics in 2020. Some of Joe’s favorite R packages include shinyjs, datapasta, Plotly, and Reticulate. When he’s not geeking out over the latest in open-source data science, Joe can usually be found playing video games, enjoying tabletop games, playing soccer, or spending time with his wife watching their favorite shows.

Emily is part of the support team. She has experience using data in engineering, quality and training in the baking industry with a focus on translating technical speak into human terms. She lives with her family of five in Columbus, OH.

Gábor is a software engineer at RStudio, working in Hadley’s team on R infrastructure packages.

Pritam is a Customer Success Manager at RStudio. Prior to joining Customer Success, he held a variety of quantitative finance roles at institutions including Cargill, Wolverine Trading, and Allianz. In addition to his responsibilities at RStudio, Pritam is an instructor in the Master of Financial Mathematics program at the University of Minnesota, where he teaches graduate students about the intersection between machine learning and quantitative finance.

Desirée enjoys combining code, teaching, and illustration in her work. Her favorite hobby project is a collaboration called “Teacups, Giraffes, & Statistics”, an illustrated series of online modules to teach stats with R, featuring a whimsy narrative about miniature giraffes. She holds a PhD in Neuroscience, and it was through her doctoral work that she came to love R and RStudio.

My name is Wladimir and I go by Wlad. I have a passion for leadership and technologies, and I am very focused on customer experience. I am married, father of two amazing boys that were born on the same day, two years apart. We live in North Carolina and as a good Brazilian, I love soccer and sports in general.

Brian has been a software leader and programmer on a wide array of products- the J2EE server JRun, Adobe Flex, the video players of Brightcove, and the benefits platform Maxwell Health. He greatly enjoys mentoring, being a servant leader, and setting up teams for success. Most of his time outside of work is spent with his three children, who love to play board games with him.

Andrie started using R in 2009 for market research statistics. He is a regular contributor to StackOverflow and co-author of “R for Dummies”. He contributed several R packages to CRAN, including miniCRAN, checkpoint, ggdendro, sss, and surveydata, and regularly speaks at industry events and R user groups. He is a qualified yoga teacher, and continues to study yoga therapy annually in Chennai, India.

Rachael has a background in operations and sales. Originally from CT, she has lived in Boston for 7 years. Growing up in a family restaurant/bar, she has always wanted to work directly with customers and do all she can to make people happy. Her interest in analytics and affinity for networking led Rachael to RStudio. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, playing guitar, and meeting new people.

Michael is a part of the Enterprise Advocate team. He served as a Business Analyst and Technical Project Manager within the Banking and Energy domains at Cognizant. Michael earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Economics at Virginia Tech with a concentration in Applied Business Computing. In his free time, he enjoys writing music, attending shows around Brooklyn, and film photography.

Christophe is a software engineer at RStudio. With an engineering background in economics and energy, he discovered R as an analyst then became a passionate R-admin supporting all R users and usage in his previous company. Longtime contributor for open-source R packages, he now works with Yihui to make the publication and reproducibility ecosystem with Rmarkdown all better.

Kate is a Web Developer on the Marketing team. Before joining the RStudio team, they worked on models at a Catastrophe Modeling software company using R and Shiny. Kate is passionate about creative solutions to technical problems, and intuitive and simple website design. In school, Kate studied Data Science, Creative Writing and 2D Art. In their free time, they enjoy painting, printmaking, walking in the sun, and reading.

Hadrien is an avid adventurer who grew up training horses. He now continues to ride on weekends along with trail running and working towards his private pilot’s license. He fell in love with data science and R after college and has worked in various industries including tech and insurance. He is now a member of the customer success team at RStudio.

Mark is a member of the enterprise sales team at RStudio. Previously, he was engaged in basic and applied cancer research at USC Medical Center, during which he was a heavy R user.

With a focus on data and analytics, Sabrina has spent her sales career engaging with enterprise corporations in multiple verticals; helping them find innovative software solutions to meet their complex business needs. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Sabrina now lives in Melbourne, Florida with her Husband, children and fur babies.

Karl is a software engineer on the RStudio IDE. In the past, he’s written distributed server applications for the finance, hospitality, and data storage industries.

Mario is a QA Engineer with 8 years of experience breaking code in the video game industry. A naturally obsessive person, Mario’s passion for clean code, process, user experience, and documentation has served his teams well over the years. Outside of work, you will find him enjoying time with his wife and daughter or playing a game with friends.

Tonya is a psychology nerd who fell in love with R during her graduate training in clinical psychology. Since joining RStudio in 2017, she has been using her experience in research, teaching, and statistics to help customers become as successful as possible using RStudio’s toolchain. When she’s away from her computer, you will often find her doing yoga, cooking, running, or cuddling with her two beloved cats.

Tyler is a software engineer who cut his teeth working on data science problems at McGill in Montreal. Since then he worked at multiple startups in the Boston-area and even spent some time teaching. When Tyler is off the clock you’ll most likely find him skiing, surfing, or rock climbing.

Stephanie graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside with a business degree, a concentration in Human Resources, and a certified Payroll Professional, CPP. She has worked in Payroll for over 3 years specifically for a PEO. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and two dogs! She loves attending concerts, shows, music festivals, and would say the gym is her second home!

Ian is a data person with a background in data science and DevOps. He has experience consulting within the pharmaceutical industry, government sector, NGOs and educational institutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Puerto Rico. As part of his academic background he holds a Master’s degree in Data Science from the University of British Columbia. Outside of work, he enjoys free diving in the Atlantic Ocean, exploring tropical rainforests in Puerto Rico and cooking spicy food.

Josh is a Site Reliability Engineer from Portland Maine. He is from Cumberland Maine originally, but lived and worked in the greater Boston area for 10 years before finding his way back home again. He is an avid traveller with a heavy focus on Italy. He’s been practicing Italian for a few years now, but it still admittedly very intermediate at it. He has a Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Josh has worked on a dairy farm, trained on roller skates with the Broadway cast of Xanadu, been a wedding planner, and attended the San Francisco Baking Institute. He lives in the Hudson Valley.

Hannah is a software engineer working on modeling in the tidyverse. Before moving into data science, she completed a PhD in statistics and collaborated with Team GB Hockey in preparation for the 2016 Olympics.

Amanda has solved problems at small Boston-based startups for many years. She has experience building high-quality software in various roles, including customer support, test strategy and automation, and product management.

Saudia is a Technical Recruiting Lead with years of experience finding great talent. Prior to joining RStudio she worked at DigitalOcean and Audible where she did tech recruiting and ran diversity and inclusion programs. Outside of work she paints, read books (mostly fiction), and scavenge the house for socks that her puppy steals and hides from her.

Elisa is a member of the marketing team, helping to plan and execute our event sponsorships and roadshow events. Originally from Dallas, but moved to Austin, TX ten years ago to attend The University of Texas – hook ‘em! In her free time, Elisa enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her family.

Alex is a longtime data nerd who worked on economic policy research, electoral politics, and healthcare at various times. He enjoys cooking and practicing martial arts and handstands in his spare time.

Chris somehow managed to turn his knack for finding problems with everything into a successful career in software testing and automation. His professional life includes experience testing API, web and mobile apps, desktop apps, and guitar effects pedals. His personal life includes family, kids, fixing things, video games, music, and musical instruments.

Mel is a software engineer and has been for a while. She likes simplicity.

Garrett specializes in teaching, data science, and teaching data science. He has a PhD in Statistics, wrote the popular lubridate package, invented the RStudio cheatsheets, and has (co)authored three books: Hands-On Programming with R, R for Data Science, and R Markdown: The Definitive Guide.

Darby is a QA engineer that has worked primarily in the video game industry. He has tested everything from AAA games to web applications with work ranging from automation development to management.

Janeka has worked as a software engineer before moving into a Technical Operations manager position. She’s passionate about solving problems, finding common grounds, and knowing her target audience in establishing effective communication - which makes her a triple threat. Her philosophy is: ‘why do things manual, when you can automate’. When she’s not defining critical work streams and accelerating application delivery without compromising quality, she can be found spending time with her husband and 2 young daughters, traveling, eating good food, and seeking adventure.

Kevin has worn many hats over his sales career. For the last four and a half years, he worked for a data analytics start up in the education space. Kevin loves building deep relationships and thrives on helping his clients solve problems and meet strategic goals. Kevin lives on the north shore of Boston with his wife and two young kids. When not chasing his kids around, he loves cooking, exploring the craft beer scene and tries his best to stay active with boxing and Brazilian jiu-jitsu training.

Jen is an HR and People Analytics veteran who was first introduced to RStudio as a user in 2013. Ever since, she has been captivated by open data science tools and the communities that build them. She has held HR roles in a variety of industries, including financial services, biotech, and used record shops. Outside of work, Jen loves books of all kinds, and is a novice fly caster.

Graham is interested in a wide variety of things from art to music to programming to hardware design. Graham has a degree in game design and art, which is surprisingly handy when approaching UX/UI design problems – especially when considering that the elements which make a game look good and play well translate to software tools. Outside of work, Graham likes to keep himself busy with multi-faceted projects that involve delving in to multiple disciplines to complete (Graham’s website has some more information about those projects). Graham also enjoys playing drums and cycling regularly, as well as digital painting, 3D modelling, composing music, and fumbling through unfamiliar subjects to gain a better understanding of modern technology and science.

Ashley is a Technical Writer with previous experience working in the public and private sectors. Her claim to fame is her name appearing in the Middle-earth: Shadow of War end game credits. Ashley’s hobbies include crafting, attempting to keep her succulents alive, binge-watching The Office, and watching her husband play for the ECHL Adirondack Thunder. Ashley currently lives in Glens Falls, NY, with her husband and two dogs.

Lionel is a software developer at RStudio. He studied political science and statistics, developed a passion for writing R packages, and now assists Hadley in creating a rich data analysis framework.

Jim is a software engineer at RStudio working with Hadley to build better tools for data science. He is the author of a number of R packages including lintr and covr, tools to provide code linting and test coverage for R.

Alison is a Data Scientist & Professional Educator at RStudio. She has used R both in the classroom as a professor, and in the lab as a scientist and mentor. She specializes in teaching data science to new and advanced R users, and helping data scientists adopt literate programming tools to document and communicate their work. She is one of the authors of the book “blogdown: Making Websites with R Markdown”. Previously, she was an Associate Professor and Assistant Director of a computational research center at Oregon Health & Science University. Her work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and Autism Speaks. Alison holds a Ph.D. in psychology and quantitative methods from Vanderbilt University (2008) and an undergraduate degree from Georgia Tech (2002).

Taylor is a data scientist with a background using data to solve business problems in the software and retail industries. Taylor lives in the Oklahoma City area and holds a master’s degree in Predictive Analytics from Northwestern University. Outside of work, Taylor enjoys playing golf.

Kaitlyn is a member of our People Ops team. She is all about creating, communicating and inspiring! She spent the previous 8 years in the Venture Capital industry where she worked in a variety of marketing and communication roles. Kaitlyn’s main focus at RStudio is on internal employee satisfaction, company-wide cohesiveness and event planning. When Kaitlyn isn’t organizing, planning or enhancing time management you can find her cycling, hiking, volunteering, traveling and meeting new people.

Carl has experience as an analyst, educator, and computer scientist. R has been Carl‘s go-to platform for market research data science since 2002, and he spent the last three years teaching companies around the world how to analyze big data using Hadoop. Carl moved to the Boston area to study computer science at MIT in the previous millennium and still resides in the suburbs with his wife and two grown sons. He is also an enthusiastic classical singer, cat servant—cats don’t have owners, they have staff—and aviation geek.

Dave has held a diverse number of roles in both large enterprises and small startups, with a passion for applying emerging technologies to business problems. Prior to RStudio he served in an IT role building an internal data science platform. Dave lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and works with business partners to insure their success with RStudio products.

Rich is a software engineer that enjoys working with R. He likes to create R packages that help people to accomplish things. While Rich very clearly digs R, he enjoys other things as well! Examples include: playing and listening to music, reading books, watching films, meeting up with friends, and wandering through the many valleys and ravines of the Greater Toronto Area.

Autumn has worked in various sales/service jobs including retail and banking, and she is dedicated to success! When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their furbabies, inserting random movie/tv quotes into conversation, and making travel plans that are specifically focused around food!

Scott Jackson is a software engineer and individual contributor to RStudio Connect. Prior to re-entering software engineering, Scott worked as a patent attorney focused on software-related patents. Scott‘s experience includes contributions to the SciPy stack, data engineering infrastructure for enterprises, and full-stack web development. Scott‘s hobbies include coffee roasting, Kerbal Space Program, and tearing down electronics. Scott is a co-organizer for PhillyR, a Philadelphia-area R meetup.

Jaclyn is a nurse who became way too enthusiastic about R during her graduate studies in public health. After working clinically in labor and delivery and critical care, Jaclyn contributed to environmental health and health outcomes research as a data analyst. What she loved most during this time was helping her colleagues navigate the R ecosystem and troubleshoot coding woes. Jaclyn also enjoys birding, baking, and getting outside.

With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Rick is head of the Information Security practice at RStudio. He lives with his family outside of Seattle and when not in front of a computer, you’ll find him with a tool in his hand either building or breaking something. Usually the latter.

Ryan is a Customer Success Representative at RStudio with a background in Microbiology and Bioinformatics. He obtained his PhD from the Uniformed Services University in Maryland and did his postdoctoral training at the National Human Genome Research Institute, NIH. The only thing that rivals his love for infectious diseases is generating ‘super cool’ visualizations from large data sets using R and RStudio. In his free time, you can find Ryan running marathons/ultramarathons in the DC area or hiking miles along the Appalachian Trail. Ryan resides in Gaithersburg with his wife and two feline co-workers.

With over 10 years of IT experience, Monte is the IT Systems Administrator at RStudio. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in History and Mathematics, and is currently a graduate student. Monte came to the Information Security and Technology team at RStudio with a strong drive for solving problems and making things better. Originally from Georgia he currently resides in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Outside of IT, Monte is a classically trained violinist, an amateur standup comedian, and the co-founder and COO of a documentary-film media company that strengthens his deep passion for volunteerism.

Tareef is a software startup executive and a member of teams that built up ATG’s eCommerce offering and Brightcove’s Online Video Platform, helping both companies grow from early startups to publicly traded companies.

Derrick is a software developer with a focus on using Open Source technologies to build environments that contribute to scientific research. Over the years, he has embedded himself within research groups at institutions around the United States, working closely with over two dozen teams to understand their needs and implement software solutions that allowed them to work more effectively. He has a special place in his heart for software that works as intended, and now spends significant portions of time building systems that reduce the barriers that make software testing the uninvited friend at the development cycle party.

David is a software engineer working on RStudio Connect. He enjoys watching baseball, playing soccer, and discovering new music.

Curtis was recently an academic economist researching online communities and markets, conducting behavioral and market-structure experiments. Today, he is a part of RStudio’s efforts to support the R and open-source data-science community of users, developers, consultants, and trainers.

Sigrid is a trained psychologist who has worked in software development, database engineering, and data science / machine learning. At RStudio, she helps with software engineering and writes on the TensorFlow for R blog, the blog about deep learning and probabilistic reasoning from R. She is passionate about exploring the frontiers of deep learning and interfacing deep learning to Bayesian probabilistic computation.

Andy is a software engineer that has worked at a number of startups.

Pete has been in sales since his undergrad days at both Suffolk and Temple. Whether recruiting, selling web ad-space or handling high tech accounts, he has prided himself on being an asset to his customers. The fascinating projects he encountered in the analytics market, both at Spotfire and Jaspersoft, led Pete to RStudio. During his career Pete has enjoyed working at a variety of companies; from his own start up to larger companies like TIBCO. Outside of providing customers with excellent service, Pete enjoys surfing and spending time with his family.

Max Kuhn is a software engineer at RStudio. He is currently working on improving R’s modeling capabilities. He was a Director of Nonclinical Statistics at Pfizer Global R&D in Connecticut. He was applying models in the pharmaceutical and diagnostic industries for over 18 years. Max has a Ph.D. in Biostatistics. Max is the author of a number of R packages for techniques in machine learning and reproducible research and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Statistical Software. He, and Kjell Johnson, wrote the book Applied Predictive Modeling, which won the Ziegel award from the American Statistical Association, which recognizes the best book reviewed in Technometrics in 2015. Their new book, Feature Engineering and Selection, was released in 2019.

Dylan Lackey joins RStudio as a Senior Account Executive supporting Financial Services and Insurance customers. He currently lives in Austin, TX but is from Fort Wayne, IN and graduated from IU (GO HOOSIERS!!) with degrees in Entrepreneurship and Management from the Kelley School of Business. Prior to RStudio, he worked at Oracle ensuring success with MySQL in the open-source community. He has a passion for sales and serving customers by helping them solve problems to achieve strategic business outcomes. In his free time he enjoys running, snowboarding, slacklining at Zilker park, Slalom skiing behind his boat on Lake Austin, and getting into trouble with his Golden Retriever named Morton.

Kayla resides in the small town of Allenton, MI. She is a small business owner and dance enthusiast. She is also a large advocate for Michigan Special Olympics, a refurbished home goods artist, and loves to spend her spare time at home with her significant other and two rescued kittens, Lucky and Chance.

Matt has a professional background in both software and audio engineering. His focus has been in developing single page web applications. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with family, hiking, road trips and playing multiple musical instruments.

Jeremy studied computer science at Columbia, and worked as a software engineer before moving into business with positions as general manager, VP, and Managing Director at Elysium Digital, Stroz Friedberg, Aon, and the legal-technology startup Shoobx. Jeremy lives with his family outside Boston, and is an avid cyclist and a freelance classical musician.

Brian Law works on the customer success team focusing on companies in Finance. He joins RStudio after time on Wall Street, in Consulting, and academia where he earned his Ph.D. in Political Science and learned Statistics and R.

Bryan is an IT Architect with previous experience working in various IT roles within the financial services sector. He is passionate about leveraging technology to help teams make the most meaningful use of their time and effort. Outside of work, you will often find him travelling with his family, hiking in the mountains with his dogs, running a Spartan Race, or helping young professionals become more comfortable with personal finance.

Yitao is a software engineer with experience building distributed and scalable backend services. Before joining RStudio, his hair turned gray after going through a lot of C++ lawyering at work, and then he started missing the simplicity and elegance when working with R. He received his master’s degree in computer science from University of Washington and bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics from New York University. Yitao enjoys solving cryptograms and printing 3D objects during his spare time.

Leticia is a Site Reliabity Engineer, a DevOps enthusiast with a passion for Software/Process Quality who likes to focus on Engineering Productivity. Originally from Brazil, she has been living in the US - North Carolina since 2013. When Leticia is not working or learning new technologies, she is spending time with her family and enjoying her husband, her two handsome baby boys and her Pomeranian.

Greg is a software engineer on the Package Manager team. Before joining, he studied computer science at Rice and worked on server management software at HP. He lives in Houston, where he gets to enjoy fine weather and an incredible diversity of foods.

Sarah enjoys helping companies ensure that their internal & external information is both findable and usable. As a librarian, she has worked for universities, a law firm and a start-up, ensuring that staff & clients are able to get the right information when they need it. If there’s a mess that needs to be organized, she’s the person to call! While she currently resides outside Sacramento, Sarah is a recent transplant to Northern California. She spent 15 years in Chicago, receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and her Master’s in Library & Information Science from the University of Illinois. When she’s not ignoring everyone in favor of a good book, she can be found spending time with her husband and 2 young kids, knitting, or enjoying the California sunshine.

Sean leads teams to create useful, enjoyable products. Before RStudio he was a data scientist and worked on alternative vehicle models at NREL, infant sleep dynamics, and originally studied mathematics. He lives outside Denver, CO and skis and bikes with his family.

Matthew is a software engineer working on RStudio Cloud. He enjoys cooking food, eating food, and making quality software.

Valerie is a QA Automation Engineer with experience primarily in the video games industry. Her passion lies in creating the most efficient way to do the most mundane tasks, finding satisfaction in reducing mind-numbing repetitive work down to the click of a button. She holds a degree in Computer and Information Technology from Marshall University.

Mike is a software engineer on the RStudio Connect team and has experience creating data science tools in startup and enterprise environments. He holds degrees in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Rochester. In addition to being an engineer, he has held roles as a product owner, project manager, software architect, and engineering manager. In his spare time, Mike enjoys spending time with his family and coaching first Robotics.

Katie is a mechanical engineer by training, but found her calling in data science and using R while working statistical analysis in the aerospace industry. A good cup of coffee, reproducibility, and making life easier for the next user are three things she loves most. Katie is an avid knitter and knitr, and she can often be found trying to tame her ridiculously overgrown garden, building Legos with the kids, or thinking about taking up running as a hobby.

Lawrence is a QA Engineer whose tech journey started out by testing video games in San Diego, California. Originally an artist, he grew to form an interest in coding thanks to the individuals he worked with over the years. Now home in Austin Texas, he is pursuing an interest in becoming a therapist. He is a nerd at heart, a husband and a father.

Andrew is a Software Engineer who’s spent his career working with distributed systems. He lives near Atlanta, Georgia. He enjoys spending time with his family, video and board games.

Richard grew up in the South East of England, and moved to Wales in late 2017. He cut his teeth as a junior sysadmin, progressing through the ranks to senior sysadmin, before moving into the DevOps field. As a DevOps Engineer, he spent most of his time working with Amazon’s AWS, automating infrastructure build out and code deployment, and putting in place security and networking configurations. In his spare time, Richard likes to climb, hike, roast/brew/drink coffee, walk his dogs and, last but not least, ferment! He enjoys making water kefir, milk kefir, kombucha, and sourdough bread.

Nick is RStudio’s People Operations Partner and has a background in statistics, compensation, people analytics, talent management, and HR systems. He has experience building HR solutions and efficiencies using both R and Tableau. He lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife and two dogs and enjoys hiking, attending sporting events, and volunteering in the community.

Jonathan leads the development of the RStudio IDE. In the past, he’s written Web applications at a nuclear site in the desert, exploratory information visualization systems at UC Davis, and features for Office products and web applications at Microsoft. In addition to software engineering, he loves reading books, playing the piano, and riding his bicycle.

Karen joined RStudio as a Software Engineer Apprentice, after having recently graduated from the Resilient Coders bootcamp. She enjoys being hands-on and appreciates a challenge. Karen is a native Spanish speaker with a background in the social sciences. When she’s not coding, you can find her writing, hiking, or reading up on interesting places to explore.

Jason is a member of the Customer Success team at RStudio where he supports Healthcare and Life Sciences organizations as they adopt and scale our enterprise tools. He previously worked at SAS Institute, supporting data science teams and business users in the healthcare space. When he has spare time, he usually spends it on a lake with his wife and yellow lab, fishing for musky, but rarely catching a thing.

Located in Pittsburgh, Tyler (she/her) is a new member of the marketing team focusing on the digital marketing initiatives at RStudio. Her background is in both paid media and demand generation working at both agencies and in-house marketing teams. Outside of RStudio, she likes traveling, photography, studying foreign languages, and playing with her dog, Astra.

Thomas is the Customer Enablement Lead at RStudio, helping RStudio’s customers be as successful as possible. He is deeply involved global data science community, staying tips on #RStats Twitter (find him at @thomas_mock), as co-founder of #TidyTuesday, a weekly Data Science learning challenge, and presenting on various Data Science topics on YouTube or at conferences.

Nichole is an epidemiologist by training who was first introduced to R and RStudio while in graduate school. Since then, she has found any excuse to use, teach, and (now) work for RStudio. She is the co-founder of ‘Women in Data NoCO’- a group that brings together two of her favorite things; data lovers and beer. Her other interests include a love for powerlifting, starting a home brewery, and attempting to climb every 14er in Colorado.

A former high school science teacher turned data scientist, Jesse now combines a love of both R and Python with a passion for digital content creation. When not completely absorbed in their latest creative project, Jesse can be found at the boxing gym, adopting (another) houseplant, or making sure their cat Jinx has plenty of tissue paper to play in.

Chrissy is an FP&A leader with experience in both large public companies and small startups who enjoys building and scaling financial processes in collaborative environments. Outside of work, she lives in the Lakes Region of NH with her husband and enjoys getting outdoors as much as possible, traveling (especially with her friends and family) and trying out new cocktail recipes.

Hisashi is a recruiter with years of experience finding vast talents in various sectors. Prior to joining RStudio, he worked at Luxottica (EssilorLuxottica) and various startups/IT consulting firms where he honed in on sourcing and recruiting. When he’s not working, he enjoys traveling, sports (Notre Dame Football), cooking, and soon to be a dad to puppies!

Toni has many years of experience in breaking software across several different sectors including cybersecurity, financial, mobile, and more. In her spare times she wears many hats as she deejays, creates things of all varieties, cooks, dabbles in photography, and throws electronic music events.

Steve is a Site Reliability Engineer at RStudio. He’s an avid homebrewer and is currently located in Philadelphia, PA. He and his wife love to travel and share a goal of visiting as many US National Parks as they can. He holds a master’s degree in information security from Penn State University as well as bachelor’s degrees in both music and computer information systems from Westminster Choir College and Rider University.

Tom Norris is a site reliability practitioner that treats cloud operations problems like software engineering problems. They live with their partner and two cats. Outside of work, they explore New England, and write software that makes sounds.

Roger has been a general manager and vice president of sales, marketing, and engineering from early stage start-ups such as RStudio, Veracode, XVT and Requisite to Ping Identity, Spotfire, TIBCO, Rational, and IBM

Chris Paul has more than 20 years of information technology experience spanning multiple fields. Specializing in security architecture, penetration testing, compliance management, and consulting.

Thomas is a former bioinformatician focusing on creating data visualisation tools. He enjoys photography as well as creating generative art and tries to find time to do some climbing as well. Thomas lives just north of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Daniel Petzold has been driving analytics in the release, marketing and management of a spectrum of products, from self-service reporting and data discovery to model management and streaming. Previously a data visualization specialist/investment analyst, he has a passion for understanding the world through data, writing music, hiking and spending time with his family at their home base in San Diego.

Eric is a product leader with a passion for science and education. He has experience building and growing products in both B2C and B2B markets, across several industries and multiple geographies.

Ian is a support engineer that has worked in information technology and support for many years, including at Wellesley College and Wesleyan University.

Matt is a high-growth Go-To-Market Leader with wide-ranging experience in all phases of planning, building, launching, and growing software solutions, from startups to large enterprises, across all major customer verticals. He has led large client portfolios in publicly traded companies like Google and Accenture, and built and led global commercial teams at early-stage companies like Ionic Security and Evident ID.

Joseph began working with the R community in 2009 when he joined Revolution Analytics as a data scientist after a career of holding various technical and marketing positions at multiple Silicon Valley startups. He has been with RStudio since 2016. Joseph is the editor of the R Views blog, and is RStudio’s representative on the R Consortium Board of Directors. Joseph attended Franklin & Marshall college on a Classics scholarship and later earned a M.A. in Humanities and a M.S. in Statistics, both from the California State University.

Gary is a software engineer working on the RStudio IDE. During several years at Microsoft, he developed a variety of desktop, mobile and web features. Prior to that he built software for (much) smaller companies in the geophysical and medical fields. He enjoys hiking, coffee, and avoiding sunburns.

Ingrid is a software engineer on the Connect team. She has experience working in the financial industry, satellite communications and even her own startup. She enjoys developing intuitive and mobile-friendly web applications that improve the overall user experience . She holds a degree in computer science from Florida International University. Ingrid loves the warm weather and likes to spend her free time in the water scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling, jet skiing and parasailing.

Nick helps customers make the most of RStudio’s products. His background is in cognitive psychology, where he first developed his love for all things RStudio. Before joining RStudio, he worked to improve geopolitical forecasting with Good Judgment. In his spare time, Nick’s an avid NBA follower and fan of the 76ers

Anne has a background in sales & training, and has worked for companies such as Thomson Reuters and Forrester Research. Originally from Wisconsin, Anne has called Boston home for over 10 years.

Edgar co-authored a book called “Mastering Spark with R,” “dbplyr package”, and is the creator of the dbplot, tidypredict and modeldb package. Edgar has also authored multiple articles and blog posts sharing analytics insights and server infrastructure for data science. He has a background in deploying enterprise reporting and business intelligence solutions. He loves to promote how to best use R for enterprise by helping publish articles, articulate examples, and many other ways. Overall, you can say Edgar is a huge fan of R and lives and breathes data science!

The Puget Sound region of the beautiful Pacific Northwest is my home. I live in a rural area on the Key Peninsula with my Husband, 2 dogs and 2 Chickens. We’re surrounded by a beautiful landscape of forest, water, and wildlife. Being surrounded by nature is my happy place. I am a Veteran of the United States Air Force and have worked in Administrative, Customer Success and Finance roles within the Software Industry for over 20 years. In my spare time I enjoy walking, hiking, kayaking and family camping trips. I also have a deep love for music, of all kinds.

Latoya joined the Support Engineer team in 2019 and currently resides in El Paso, Texas, with her husband, their ten-year-old daughter, and 2 fur babies. Before RStudio, she spent six years working at an IT corporation primarily in Software Developer role; however, she also has Product Engineer and Sys Admin experience under her belt. She left the corporation in 2018 to follow and support her husband’s military career and is happy that her decision led her to a great opportunity at RStudio. Latoya holds a Masters in Computer Science and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in IT with a focus in Project Management. When she is not busy with work/classes, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing video games, or binging Netflix. Latoya loves music, traveling to different countries, and eating pasta.

Bill is a software engineer currently working on the Connect team. He enjoys developing unique and creative solutions which solve difficult problems. Bill has done this in many different industries prior to joining RStudio including Telecom, Defense, Medical, Manufacturing, IT Infrastructure and Banking. For fun, Bill loves scuba diving, wood working, photography and travel. He has dove in the Red Sea, climbed inside an Egyption Pyramid, camped on the African Serengeti, chased the northern lights in Finland, relaxed on a transatlantic voyage, visited a Tibetan monastery and driven a car around the coast of Iceland. Next up is a trip to Antarctica!

Michael is a recovering academic whose strange path led from degrees in chemistry and materials science to software engineering with a particular focus on packaging and environment management. He enjoys tinkering, teaching, gardening, satire, and photography (in no particular order).

Dr. Barret Schloerke is a Software Engineer at RStudio and maintains many R packages surrounding the Shiny ecosystem, including reactlog, plumber, and learnr. He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from Purdue University. Outside of work, Barret enjoys traveling and dropping in at different CrossFit gyms.

James lives in the Hudson Valley but grew up in Rochester, NY. He has a background in customer service and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from SUNY New Paltz. In his free time, he enjoys skiing, golfing, playing guitar, and traveling. He hopes that one day the Buffalo Bills will win the Super Bowl.

Maria is a software engineer who has experience developing database drivers and a Client/Server architecture for database drivers. She joined RStudio in 2018 as a member of the RStudio IDE team.

Robby is a designer who’s helped create software products & services for organizations large and small including Noteflight, Adobe, Virtual Ubiquity, Maven Networks, Art Technology Group, IBM, Lotus & Learningways.

Jerred is passionate about programming and technology. He is currently a Software Engineer at RStudio and previously worked as a Software Development Engineer at AWS Systems Manager. His free time is usually spent deeply pursuing what happens to be interesting to him at the time, such as cooking, programming languages, bouldering, and reading.

Tatsu comes from an academic research background in psychology where he researched how exercise can influence the way we think and function optimally. In the spirit of me-search, he is an avid runner, enjoys people watching, and loves to play around with data. He was hooked on RStudio early in his graduate career. Few things give him more satisfaction than producing beautiful, reproducible data visualizations. In fact, he is still wrapping his head around getting paid to talk about RStudio with people. You can catch Tatsu in his downtime cooking up a storm, walking and hiking with his partner and dog, and spending many weekends watching Premier League soccer.

Nischal is an intern working with Alison Hill and Greg Wilson on interactive tutorials in Python. He is currently a computer science PhD student at NC State University, researching effective and efficient ways to teach and learn programming languages. Outside of work, he enjoys powerlifting, reading books, watching movies and listening to or playing music.

Carson brings a PhD in statistics to his engineering role with the goal of delivering better data visualization and statistical computing tools to scientists and analysts. His work on the R package plotly for interactive data visualization was recognized by the ASA with the 2017 Chambers Award. Before joining RStudio in late 2018, Carson ran a consulting business delivering data-driven software products and training services to organizations such as the Library of Congress, NOAA, Sandia National Labs, and TCB Analytics.

Julia is a data scientist and software engineer working on modeling in the tidyverse. She is both an international keynote speaker and a real-world practitioner focusing on data analysis and machine learning practice. She worked in academia (teaching and doing research) and ed tech before moving into data science and discovering R. Julia is especially interested in natural language processing and wrote the book Text Mining with R with her coauthor David Robinson. She loves Jane Austen, making beautiful charts, and communicating about technical topics with diverse audiences.

Lachlan has spent the last decade in research institutions providing supercomputing and programming advice, support and training to specialists across all fields - from translation studies and history to bioinformatics and fluid dynamics. The decade before that was spent supporting civil society groups with their technical needs, capped off with a year in Tarawa, providing database support to the Government of Kiribati. Listening to music, reading and playing games with old friends is what happens when not dreaming of opening a small restaurant in rural Japan that happily serves three customers a day. His touch typing is not as good as it should be, and he is old enough to have changed his opinion of mango, although not of baked beans.

Gagandeep is a former software engineer and data scientist who has worked in a variety of cross-technology teams. Before joining RStudio, he was consulting with fortune 500 companies to build their analytical capacities. Outside of work you can find him at a local bookstore or exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Cecil’s career has been spent mostly working with startups & smaller organizations, helping them grow and achieve success through the use of technology with an emphasis on incorporating Virtualization, Cloud, and Networked technologies into day-to-day operations. I’ve been exposed to most facets of a technology business, and have a strong interest for learning about new and emerging technologies that benefit people and the way we interact with the world. In Cecil’s spare time, Cecil enjoys going for scenic drives in old cars, being an avid golfer, riding motorcycles, watching movies, binge eating, and spending time with family.

Swati has vast experience working as QA Automation Engineer for IoT Security and Digital Marketing company. When not testing, Swati enjoys traveling, hiking and watching movie with family and friends.

Brian is a software engineer and entrepreneur with a background in Math and Computer Science. The rare moments when not coding or reading are usually occupied by beer, food, or travel (occasionally all three at once).

Jason is a high growth Sales Leader with a passion for Leadership excellence. He’s known for the impactful way he serves his teammates, customers and his drive to improve for the betterment of those around him. In his spare time Jason loves to run the trails of GA, cycle on his Peloton and surf Lake Lanier!

Josh is a software craftsman with a passion for start ups and single malts. He has Computer Science degrees from Brown University. When not building software, Josh plays Magic with his sons and sails out of Jamestown, RI.

Martin Stein is an international product executive who started his career as a tech-journalist reviewing thousands of software applications for Macworld. Before joining RStudio, Martin served as General Manager for DefinedCrowd.ai, where he created an ethically sourced data and model marketplace for cognitive AI solutions. Additionally, he served as Chief Product Officer and Chief Analytics Officer for G5, developing G5’s AI-based Call Scoring and Advertising technology. For this achievement, Constellation Research recognized Martin with the 2018 SuperNova Award for Digital Marketing Transformation and Sales Effectiveness Category for Disruptive Technology Leadership. Martin brings over 20 years of product experience and business expertise from companies like Apple, DefinedCrowd.ai, Bend.ai, and IDG. Martin holds five patents and has an M.A. in computational sociology and social networks/systems from the University of Stuttgart, Germany. He resides in the Pacific Northwest with his wife and two Rhodesian Ridgebacks.

Nathan has a background in analytic solutions and consulting. He has experience building data science teams, architecting analytic infrastructure, and delivering innovative data products. He is a long time user of R.

Nick is an engineer on the Shiny team working to make web applications with R easy to build, beautiful, and powerful. Nick has a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from Vanderbilt University and previously worked as a data journalist at the New York Times.

Ralf is a solutions engineer after having worked in engineering and consulting roles in the financial and the IT industry. He is a trained physicist who likes to analyze complex systems.

Greg attempts to make everything at RStudio look good. He also writes and teaches under the pseudonym ‘Hadley Wickham.’

Kalau studied Computer Science and Religion at Wellesley College, where she spent lots of her time tutoring new coders, leading dorm activities, and playing Ultimate Frisbee. Her passions for building connections with people and solving problems led her to RStudio’s Customer Success Team. Kalau loves board games, trivia, and Spikeball.

Madhulika’s background is in Computer Engineering from San Jose State University. She has been in the software testing field for the past 6 years specializing in web and UI automation. She joined RStudio in 2019 as a QA Engineer in the Shiny team. She is glad about being part of such a great team and also excited about the opportunity to learn about R and DataScience. In her leisure time, she loves to spend time with her 2 year old boy. She is also a decent badminton player and enjoys the nice California weather via hiking, cycling, gardening and visiting parks with her family.

Andrew Tayler also is known as A.T., is a QA Automation Engineer and experienced scrum master. He is a strong advocate of agile development, likes to question assumptions, strives for ways to improve personally and as a team. He has experience wearing many hats and working with all types of stakeholders. In his free time, he enjoys gaming, practicing his Spanish and Portuguese. He loves cooking and trying out new vegan recipes. He also likes to stay current on all things Tesla, SpaceX, renewables, and sustainability.

Charles is a software architect at RStudio and a co-founder or early employee at a number of startups including Allaire, Onfolio, and Lose It!

Chris is a software engineer with a passion for good design. When not coding, he is usually knitting, reading, or cooking.

Shalu is a quality assurance engineer on the shiny team. She holds a Bachelor of engineering in Electrical engineering. She has worked in a previous startup company where she built a QA team and created testing processes and strategies.

Samantha is a Virginia native with a background in social psychology and statistics. She’s passionate about making data literacy more accessible for everyone, regardless of their means or background. When she’s not using R to analyze hip hop, she’s rewriting nasty math equations in Latex, organizing R-Ladies meetups, or getting her hands dirty in her vegetable garden. She lives with her partner, Nathan, and two big, stinky dogs.

Kevin is a software engineer on the RStudio IDE team. He is an active member of the R community, member of the Rcpp core team, and has contributed to a wide variety of packages in the R ecosystem. He is the maintainer of the popular reticulate, packrat, and RcppParallel R packages.

Davis is a software engineer working on modeling in the tidyverse. He holds a degree in Mathematical Finance (M.S.) and is the co-author of a number of R packages including furrr for parallelizing purrr code. Outside of R, his hobbies include reading and hiking.

Isabella is an R enthusiast, first learning the programming language during her MSc in Analytics. Previously, Isabella conducted data analysis and research, developed infrastructure to support use of data, and created resources and trainings to engage technical and non-technical audiences. Her work on the RStudio Marketing team draws on these experiences to create content that supports and strengthens data science teams. In her spare time, Isabella enjoys playing with her tortoiseshell cat, drawing, watching film analysis videos, and hiking in the mountains around Seattle.

Ann joins us as an Accounts Receivable/Staff Accountant in the finance team. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and has experience in the Pharmaceutical & Video Game industry. Ann resides in Michigan and grew up dancing; even pursued it as her career in NYC at one point. In her spare time she enjoys teaching dance, spending time with her family, and spoiling her dog, Kona.

Jeff works on the RStudio IDE. He has previously built software for data visualization, ecommerce, and video conferencing. He enjoys cycling, hiking, and learning cool new stuff.

Katherine is a part of the Sales Operations team. She has an extensive background in the hospitality and food industry with a concentration in administration, sales, marketing, management, and events. At RStudio, her primary role is to navigate the Sales Ops world while focusing on Cloud offerings, Academic licensing, and open source opportunities. Her daily activities include identifying efficient processes, documentation, implementation and licensing. In her spare time, she helps plan Q&A logistics for rstudio::conf() and wherever her skills can be of use!

When she isn’t driving RStudio intiatives, you’ll find Katherine traveling, volunteering, baking, crafting, chasing her puppy Milo, trying to awfully DIY home improvement projects, or reading a Mitch Albom book!

Steve is an experienced QA analyst with 17 years of experience and is chomping at the bit to gain new skills in a tech support engineer role. He is extremely eager to help our customers succeed with the suite of RStudio products. In his spare time, Steve enjoys road cycling, ice hockey and spending time with his family.

Hadley is Chief Scientist at RStudio and Adjunct Professor of Statistics at Rice University. He is interested in building better tools for data science. His work includes R packages for data analysis (ggplot2, plyr, reshape2); packages that make R less frustrating (lubridate for dates, stringr for strings, httr for accessing web APIs); and that make it easier to do good software development in R (roxygen2, testthat, devtools, lineprof, staticdocs). He is also a writer, educator, and frequent contributor to conferences promoting more accessible and more effective data analysis.

Yihui Xie earned his PhD from the Department of Statistics, Iowa State University. He is interested in dynamic reporting, interactive statistical graphics, statistical computing, and web applications. He is an active R user and has authored or co-authored several R packages, such as knitr, rmarkdown, bookdown, blogdown, pagedown, animation, and xaringan, among which the animation package won the 2009 John M. Chambers Statistical Software Award (ASA). He has authored four books in R: Dynamic Documents with R and knitr, bookdown: Authoring Books and Technical Documents with R Markdown, blogdown: Creating Websites with R Markdown, and R Markdown: The Definitive Guide. In 2006, he founded the Capital of Statistics, which has grown into a large online community on statistics in China. He initiated the Chinese R conference in 2008, and has been organizing R conferences in China since then. During his PhD training at the Iowa State University, he won the Vince Sposito Statistical Computing Award (2011) and the Snedecor Award (2012) in the Department of Statistics.

Jon loves full-stack software development. He has recently written software for data virtualization (Cisco) and bioinformatics research (where he first worked with R). Jon resides in the mountains of southwestern Virginia, and enjoys his family, animals, nature, and mountain biking.

Heath has worked in IT Operations for many years. He has been the SME for Linux, virtualization, email routing, and storage. While he contributed to the data team creating ETL workflows for a public library, he found a fondness for working with data. In other capacities, he also taught as an instructor at a technical college, worked for the state of Colorado on an ERP implementation, and provided Oracle application support for a financial firm. Though he was never far from a Linux or UNIX terminal in any of those roles. During his off hours, Heath likes to swim, drink a proper brew of tea, play with his dogs and cooking something in his Dutch oven.
